How To Jump Into Data Science Workforce As A Fresher!

Posted by Amreeta on Dec 19, 2016 11:00:58 AM

Want to take advantage of the hottest career opportunities, but not sure how? Does it feel like every Data Science position requires a couple of years of experience? The truth is that, Data Science recently has just become a hot industry topic. The Harvard Business Review writes that Data Science the “Sexiest job in the 21st century”.  The term“Data Scientist” has grown so sporadically and the requirements constantly change, making the years of experience, not as much of a threat but rather a positive thing.

So, what does a Data Scientist do? To me, he does many things; some consider the position as a ‘data detective’.  Each has a different style of working with data.  Some only use object oriented languages such as Python, they work on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. While the others, focus on their statistical and mathematical abilities by harnessing their skills in data mining and data transformation.

Data Science has made a big splash in recent years and the role of a Data Scientist is relevant in every field, be it healthcare analytics, clinical research, pharmaceutical industry, to retail, IT and finance. According to SIAM International Conference on Big Data Analytics in Healthcare – “it says that the health industry has large amounts of data in the form of clinical studies, insurance information, and medical records to biological data, health outcomes data, and population statistics. The list is endless!”

There is always a fear of the unknown, ironically what Data Scientists were born to do. To sum it up, they actually collect unknown data every day and figure out what to do with it. But, are you a person who can code? Can you analyze data? Are you good at looking up to things are finding solutions to business problems? Are you a solution giver? If the answer is yes, then you are ready. Upload and submit your resume everywhere, even if you aren’t sure, a recruiter will hot upon you, don’t be afraid to take up those entry level jobs, all you need is an opportunity. This opportunity will become a demand and there you go.

The way to beat the system is to get over this “I don’t know if I can do this” syndrome. When you get the job, do everything in your power to immerse into the culture. Many technology companies have daily scrum meetings. This is where you can pay attention to the team and see how project management works. Always be prepared for the next phase in your life. If you start acting like you belong, you will belong. Confidence is Key!

Believe it or not, that’s seriously what it takes to get started! And, that’s the reason why a Data Scientist is one of the most demanded professional today.

If you think you have it in you but not sure how and where to get started, a good support system goes a long way. Give Sollers a call today (331-999-0005), it might change your life!
